Junior Year Checklist: Common Application
Although common app is usually not open until August 1st, you can register an account early, as a prospective student. In order to connect your common app account with your Naviance account, it’s recommended to register with your school email.
After adding schools to your list, you will be able to see the supplements and other school-specific requirements. As for recommendation letters, you can request through Naviance, and the letter status will show up on Common app in “My College” recommendation sections.
I would like to talk about the activities section of Common App. You can report up to 10 activities. You should write activity type, position/leadership description, organization name, recognition, participation grade levels, timing of participation, hours spent per week, weeks spent per year, and intention to participate in similar activity in college. Colleges want to see students participating activities for longer time with passion. It is better to participate in fewer activities for 4 years than many activities for 1 year. You should also consider leadership positions. There are many summer programs you can participate. Keep in mind that their application deadlines are February or earlier.
