FAQ: Is there a very big difference between CP, ACP, Honors and AP courses?
Question: Is there a very big difference between CP, ACP, Honors and AP courses? To be more specific, for example, between APUSH, honors and ACP US History?
There are differences between CP, ACP, Honors and AP classes with respect to the GPA you would receive and the difficulty of each level of courses. Since our school uses weighted GPA with the scale of 5.0, for both Honors and AP courses, you usually receive 5.0 for the year grades of A/A+, for ACP courses you receive 4.5 for A/A+, and for CP courses you receive 4.0 for A/A+. Also, comparing to Honors and AP courses, CP and ACP courses require less amount of work. Students in Honors and AP courses would be assigned more homework and have a faster pace of learning. AP classes, such as AP U.S. History (APUSH), require more independent reading and writing assignments, and overall they have more contents for students to learn. Honors U.S. History has less content and a slower pace of learning but still more independent reading and writing assignments comparing to CP and ACP classes. It is also possible that teachers have more strict grading policies for AP classes.
