Junior Year Checklist: Naviance

>>An Overview
Q1: What’s the difference between Naviance and Common App?
Naviance is a college planning tool that helps you with your college application process. Our high school uses it to help teachers and students with the letter of recommendation process. Also, students can check the college admission rates (such as average GPAs and standard test scores) of different schools, and the statistics are specific to our school students.
Differently, the Common Application is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to any of more than 700 member colleges and universities. Many schools require the submission of college applications through the Common Application.

Q2: When do we get our Naviance account? How do we get it?
Juniors will be guided to set up their accounts in their Guidance Seminar classes. The registration process needs help from their guidance counselors.

During the junior guidance seminar, students will be able to log on to their Naviance account. One of the most important roles of Naviance in junior year is to check our school’s admission rate at different colleges and match your data in the statistic. Your GPA and standard test scores (SAT or ACT) are automatically entered in your naviance account, and with this data, Naviance can show your general chance of getting into a specific school.

Besides the admission statistic, you can also start building your school list by adding colleges to “colleges I’m thinking about”. The list shows you the application deadlines and delivery type, such as through common app or through mail.
