The Department Labs
Do you know about Department Labs and how to use them? Here are some tips:
Social studies and English labs are pretty useful when you are writing essays and doing projects. Sometimes history teachers will require you to go to the lab at least once to check on your essay/project. But you can always go there by yourself. Sometimes the teachers there may give you very harsh comments, but these comments turn out to be the most helpful ones for you to improve your writing/understanding.
In the busy times of year, however, teachers may not be able to read through your 10-page paper, so you may want to pick some specific paragraphs or claim groups to be checked on. Teachers prefer that you come with some specific questions like “is my central claim too factual?” or “do I need to add another evidence/quote for this body paragraph?”. Department Lab schedules are on the door of each labs, take a photo and choose when to come.
For seniors, sometimes Writing Lab could also be a good place to go if you wanted to ask your English teacher for the feedback of your college application essays. However, it is better to ask your teacher or make an appointment before going over your essays. In most cases, students could go to the writing lab for English essays and projects.
Besides, our school also has the Math and Science Labs. Students seeking for help in math and sciences could go to the lab to solve problems there with teacher’s help. The detailed location of different labs could be find on the school website.
