Work As a Group

Most of the class work in WHS are done in Google drive, and it is a convenient platform where you share documents, spreadsheets, and presentation with the group. One of the advantages of working with Google drive is that you and your group members can work on the project individually or simultaneously. Getting your partners’ emails and creating a shared document is a great way to start your project. You can communicate with each other by leaving comments or revision suggestions. If you want to contact with your partners more quickly, try Facebook messenger or texting - they not only boost efficiency but also build new friendship.

Before I transferred to Wellesley High School, I’ve never worked as a group for graded assignments. I didn’t know how to work with friends for science lab reports, presentations and projects. If the teacher allows students to form their own groups, you should group with people who you feel comfortable to talk and meet outside of class to work with. If the teacher forms the group, try your best to communicate with your group members throughout the project. Make a shared google document and facebook group. In fact, group work is one of the best way to be friends with classmates. Don’t be afraid of group works and take advantage of them.

Being an active contributor is important when co-working with classmates. Keep in mind that patience and understanding are two of the key concepts of group working. Don’t feel shy because of your pronunciation, since your classmates will be supportive when you express your idea. It is natural to have different ideas, and it is the group’s responsibility to share and fuse them. Group contribution is not only a way of working effectively, but a fast approach of leadership and friendship.

Working with other group members is very important especially when you need to finish a intimidating project in a relative short amount of time. You may want to contribute effectively to the work because a complicated project couldn't be finished only by one person. Besides, you may also want to get in touch with your partners often so that you could always have some new ideas. One thing that may be helpful is that you could come up with a plan or syllabus and divide up the work before you actually started. Just remember to communicate and contribute and enjoy working with your group members!
